What is Technical SEO?

The part of SEO that makes sure search engines can reach, read and index a site: speed, mobile friendliness, site structure, redirects and errors.

In plain words

Technical SEO is the plumbing. If pages are slow, blocked, duplicated or broken, search engines may not index them however good the content is. A technical audit lists the problems and the fixes in order of importance.

What a good audit contains

  • Crawl and indexing problems
  • Page speed and mobile usability
  • Duplicate or thin pages
  • Structured data and site structure

Questions to ask a company that offers this

  1. Can I see a sample audit?
  2. Which fixes will you make yourselves and which need my developer?
  3. How will you check the fixes worked?

A good company will answer these plainly and in writing. Vague or evasive answers are worth noting.
